My name is Mrs. Hilliker, and this year I will be teaching ESL Support and Language Arts at Central Middle School and Northern Hills Middle School. This will be my sixth year teaching at Forest Hills but my fifteenth year teaching ESL. I love teaching English Learners because I enjoy exposing students to the English language and American culture while learning about their language and cultures at the same time. I earned my Master’s Degree in Literacy Studies with an Emphasis in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Grand Valley State University. I am also certified to teach English and Spanish at the secondary level. I am very passionate about the education of language learners and also serve as President of the Michigan Association for Bilingual Education. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, watching movies, and swimming. My husband Caleb enjoys long-distance running and my family loves to cheer him on at races. We have two incredible children who keep us very busy as well. Natalie is sixteen and likes graphic design and art. Nicholas is twelve and enjoys bike riding, baseball, and video games. Please feel free at any time to discuss any questions, concerns, or comments you have regarding your student’s progress either in person, by phone, or through email. I will make sure to call/email you back as soon as possible (usually the same day but definitely within 24 hours). I can’t wait to spend the next year learning and growing with your student! Sincerely, Mrs. Hilliker [email protected] |
